Freelance Electrochemistry & Research

On a mission to help teams build a sustainable future.

As a freelance researcher I offer a variety of flexible remote research services to start-ups and companies in the energy and clean-tech sector. My core, unique service is delivering on-site electrochemistry laboratory research for clients.

Electrochemical technology is central to many innovations being developed right now to tackle global problems. Technologies from energy storage and solar chemicals, to purification and direct air capture use electrochemistry. Beyond this, electrochemical methods can be used to analyse reactions and materials to unravel their chemistry.

I offer on-demand electrochemical expertise to help quickly overcome problems, gather crucial data, and accelerate development processes.

Grace joined us at a pivotal time, providing expert electrochemical research support while we recruited a new team member. Over seven months, she ran critical experiments, delivered insightful data analysis, and played a key role in onboarding our new electrochemist. Her ability to adapt quickly, work collaboratively in a fast-paced start-up environment, and troubleshoot complex electrochemical processes made a real impact. Grace was not only highly skilled and reliable but also brought great energy and positivity to the team. ”

Research Services

I offer a core set of versatile research services which can be adapted to the needs of your project. I am currently developing some new offerings so this list will grow.

On-Demand On-site Expertise

Get expert support during high-stakes project phases, exploratory projects, or staff cover at crucial moments.

Best for: established companies exploring a new technology, or specialist companies who temporarily require more electrochemical R&D expertise.

How it works: I travel to your (UK-based) site and temporarily join your team. I also have the capacity to organise equipment rental if you do not have specialist electrochemistry equipment in your lab.

Short Targeted Projects

Solve problems and answer questions with short independent research projects.

Best for: companies who need support with understanding a specific problem or delivering a proof-of-concept.

How it works: I work with you to design and implement a short project in your lab. Possible applications include:

  • Custom experiment design & implementation
  • Independent validation of internal results
  • Troubleshooting & improving a process
  • Sample analysis to build datasets to inform decisions
  • feasibility studies

Desk Research

Take some of the guessing out of guess work with literature searches & technical consultation.

Best for: Founders preparing to pitch, apply for grants, or build in a new domain.

How it works: I work with you remotely to research and refine a solution. This can include:

  • Feasibility research on concepts & mechanisms
  • Technical literature reviews (open-access focus)
  • Basic technoeconomic analysis for investor or grant decks
  • Generating IP to solve problems

Data Analysis & Custom Data Tools

Re-organise and repurpose your existing data to get faster insights. I can use my unique combination of back-end data analysis experience and chemistry knowledge to help you tidy up your data systems.

Best for: Teams with legacy chemical data from earlier studies, and new teams who want help setting up robust data processes. Possible tasks include:

  • Data visualization tools for internal or external use
  • Legacy data digitizing, and insight extraction
  • Custom dashboards to share findings with stakeholders

Exploration Package

A 2–4 week remote sprint to get clarity, build confidence, and plan your next move.

This standard package allows me to deliver you a work plan to explore a problem or solution. You can either choose to implement the work plan yourself, or it can be the foundation of a new contract.

Includes:

  • 1:1 consult to scope your challenge
  • Literature snapshot & feasibility notes
  • Experimental design
  • Summary deck or one-pager for internal/external use

A passion for solving problems

With over 6 years post-PhD research experience and more than 3 years working with start-ups and SMEs, I love fast-paced focused problem solving.
